Old Dominion's Weight Loss and Weight Management Program

The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention estimates that 48% of all pets in the United States are overweight or obese.

At Old Dominion Animal Health Center, our veterinarians and staff are working hard to lower that number and increase the quality of life for our patients and their families.

Curvy Critters is a program designed to create an individual weight loss and management program specifically geared towards your pet's needs and lifestyle. We will start off with an initial consultation which includes a physical exam, compilation of diet and exercise history, body condition score, bloodwork, and chest and abdomen measurements. Our doctors will then determine the ideal weight for your pet, devise a new diet plan, and set achievable goals for his/her progress over the next six months.

Enrollment is the first step to a healthier pet!

Following your initial consultation appointment, you and your pet will go home with an enrollment package. You will have information on weight management, a new Hill's measuring cup for consistent monitoring of food intake, a record-keeping diary, calorie-restricted food and treat samples, your pet's Body Condition Score report card, a DVD with weight loss success stories, and a copy of Fitness Unleashed, a pet weight loss guidebook provided by Hill's Pet Food Company.

Our program includes monthly weigh-in sessions with a nurse or veterinary technician who will weigh and measure your pet, update their chart, and review their progress with you. Each monthly session will include a print out of your pet's progress and a graph of their actual weight and target weight.

You and your pet are welcome to drop by anytime during business hours for an informal weigh-in. Our staff will gladly assist you in obtaining an accurate weight for your pet and recording that in his/her medical record. For those clients who find it difficult to bring in their pet, we also have a table-top scale available for you to check out overnight, so you can weigh your pet at home. However, this scale is only effective for pets weighing 25 pounds or less.

Curvy Critters staff members will be available to you in person, over the phone or via email to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding your pet's progress over the course of your enrollment.
