Capitol Canine Club

Old Dominion Animal Health Center provides the perfect combination of daily care and socialization for dogs through our Capitol Canine Club. Members can enjoy the freedom of playing with other dogs in a cage-free environment while also practicing some basic training and manners. Our club offers pet owners the option of doggie day care services with the same high quality of care that is expected from Old Dominion Animal Health Center.

Club members can enjoy the maximum freedom to run, play, and interact with other dogs while being closely supervised by our experienced staff, trained and evaluated by C&C PALS President Carole Peeler, CPDT, CDBC, CNWI, who has more than eighteen years of experience in dog training and canine behavior consultation. Plus, unlike many cage-free boarding/day care facilities, Capitol Canine Club has veterinarians immediately available to serve the health care needs of our guests should the need arise, providing that added level of safety and care for your pet.

Playtime

Dogs are divided into groups based on such criteria as their temperament, play style, and energy level. Play groups are rotated throughout the morning to ensure that play is a happy and friendly experience for all participants. During the afternoon, guests can enjoy a mid-day break and/or a leisurely nap before play groups get going again. Throughout the day, good manners, like sitting politely, waiting for treats, taking treats nicely, taking turns going through a doorway and no barking are strongly encouraged of all participants.

Puppy Day Care

Capitol Canine Club understands that good — and energetic! — puppy socialization experiences are essential to development of a well-adjusted adult dog.  That’s why we cater to the unique needs of puppies.  Our younger members play in a safe, clean, and secure environment with fellow puppies and other playmates of appropriate temperament under the close supervision of our experienced staff.  Puppies receive frequent potty breaks and well-deserved nap times.  Additionally, we will reinforce good behaviors, encourage bite inhibition, and work with your puppy to build good social skills!

Senior Day Care

senior dog daycareOlder dogs can enjoy day care just as much as their younger friends. Capitol Canine Club offers special senior day care programs designed to serve the needs of older dogs, such as extra potty breaks during the day and a little bit of extra TLC. At Capitol Canine Club, your senior dog can spend the day getting some exercise and stimulation, while being pampered and petted, without having to participate in the more active day care groups.

Member Evaluations

All Capitol Canine Club members must have a completed application, pass an evaluation, and provide proof of current vaccinations. Our evaluation consists of determining the comfort of the dog with staff, being handled, being kenneled, and interactions with other dogs. Dogs exhibiting aggression toward people or dogs, showing signs of guarding resources, or high levels of anxiety are not appropriate candidates for day care. Dogs that have not attended Capitol Canine Club for more than 6 months will need to be re-evaluated before returning.
